Oil Leak From Weep hole 2002 Yamaha 225 4 stroke 02-21-2016, 10:40 AM Walked out this morning and noticed oil leaking out of the weep hole just above the lower unit exhaust port.....then tilted the motor up and it was pouring out.....any ideas what would cause this?

The oil has to be drained out of the pan to remove the lower unit, otherwise, oil can be spilled all over the place, making a massive mess and creating an oily environmental hazard. These seals would have a tendency to leak. When they leak, oil will run down the driveshaft and over time, the engine will run low on oil. Which is a definite problem. First of all, the Honda 75 and 90's use Mercury 4 1/4" lower units. Honda buys them from Mercury, so if necessary, any Mercury dealer can easily service those lower units. Since you've got gear oil leaking out of the WATER intakes, you've got a problem that needs immediate attention. Jun 16, 2007 · 1981 75 hp Evinrude has some two stroke oil from the fuel oil mix dripping from the lower unit at the prop, no fuel just oil. I checked the gearcase oil, no signs of water in the gearcase and the gearcase was full so I'm sure that the dripping oil is not from the gearcase.The oil is much to thin to be gearcase oil.

Jan 12, 2014 · Lower unit lube is usually more of a brown color, with 2 cycle oil being green. If that’s an oil injected motor that’s about where oil will drip if you have an oil injection line on the powerhead going bad. Take the cover off the powerhead and wiggle the oil lines. One of them is probably cracked and brittle and will break if you tug on it.
